“You
don’t hear much from Gordon Lightfoot these days, Dan Fogelberg,
Jim Croce and John Denver are no longer with us, but Randi Perkins
is alive and well and is bringing the singer-songwriter spirit back
to the heart of America”. John Denver once called Randi
a "very gifted poetic songwriter", John was a close personal friend
of Randi's first producer, Mike Crowley.
Randi
grew up on a farm near a small town called Scranton in Southwestern
North Dakota and began writing songs when he was 17. At Dickinson
State University in Dickinson, North Dakota where he majored in music
and business, he participated in nationally acclaimed music groups
including jazz band, choir and symphonic band. Randi was the
songwriter and performer in the 1970’s influential rock band, Young
Imagination, who captured the attention of many folks in the
great plains states and received notable radio airplay. Randi’s
earlier accomplishments include having his song “Dakota, I’ve
Not Forgotten” chosen to represent North Dakota’s centennial
celebration in 1989 which earned him numerous radio and TV interviews
and concert appearances. He performed on CBS TV with Roy Clark and
Bobby Vee in July of that year. He was a male vocalist winner in
a country music jamboree, and was a winner in the Country Showdown
contest in 1996 in a band with his nieces. Randi also has been a
winner in numerous song contests.
He is excited
about the current release of his new CD called "Life
Is Good" in September 2008 and is extremely proud of his prior releases, “The
Songwriter”, and "Dakota Dream". Randi is also a co-author
of article on music business in Mix Magazine, and co-authored a text
used in the music business program at University of Colorado / Denver
and is a contributing author on Navigating The Music Business by
Dick Weissman and Frank Jermance published by Hal Leonard Publishing. In
artist development, Randi has been instrumental in the careers of
Kelly Aspen, Kat Perkins, and Aubrey Collins who was the lead singer
for the country band, Trick Pony for most of 2007.
