Her
upbringing based upon honest, hardworking rural roots in Southwestern
North Dakota, Kathy Perkins has attained enviable accomplishments
in her singing career. From a young age and musical heritage, she
began by singing harmony to radio commercials along with her older
sister, Kelly, in the backseat of the family automobile on road
trips when she was barely more than a toddler. An astonished audience
watched and listened as the two of them brought down the house with
a Disney medley in the regionally noted production of Hilltop Holiday
when Kathy was merely 7 years old.
Scranton
High School had never seen the likes of Kathy, a 4.0 student and
valedictorian of her senior class. She wowed the high school statewide
music community with her French horn instrumental prowess, not to
mention the fact that she could sing from a soulful place only known
by the most talented and passionate performers. Kathy won awards
for cheerleading and speech in addition to music awards, and gained
the utmost respect from her peers.
After
being told she was too young to be considered for cast of the Medora
Musical, Kathy's audition judges were blown away and she became
the youngest member ever to be offered a role in the musical, whose
production company auditions thousands of hopefuls each year to
assemble the cast. Currently, she has completed her fourth summer
with the musical and has become a regional star with her featured
performances on the show. A major travel organization has rated
the Medora Musical as one of the top ten tourist attractions in
the country.
Since
high school, Kathy has also spent time in New York, Nashville and
Minneapolis, where she currently resides. She has had multiple recording
sessions in New York and Nashville, where she has worked with talented
producers and songwriters in shaping her musical direction. Most
recently working with two Warner-Chapel producer/songwriters in
Nashville, Tennessee, Kathy has inspired them to help seek an artist
deal for her with a major record label.
As
an American Idol 2 participant in late 2002, Kathy's amazing road
to Los Angeles included beating out some 100 singing hopefuls in
a weeks long series of competitions sponsored by the FOX Network
affiliate in Fargo, North Dakota. FOX TV in Fargo dispatched a film
crew to accompany Kathy to Los Angeles for a guaranteed audition.
During the course of the first two auditions in LA, she was selected
by the show's producers as one of the top contestants and her ability
to stand out in a crowd attracted the attention of corporate sponsors.
She may not have gotten Simon Cowell's attention in the way she
hoped, but Kathy was not to be deterred saying "There will
be a place for me in this music industry".
Kathy's
uncle, Randi Perkins, a Nashville songwriter and music business
manager, sums up her talents by saying "Kathy will be raising
the bar for the music industry, she is the standard of excellence
by which I measure all other performers"
